The World Interfaith Harmony Week, A Call for Peace

Share it:
In a world with many religious conflicts, the World Interfaith Harmony Week is an opportunity for Fedactio to recall the importance of interfaith dialogue for a better live together. We believe that religion is not intended to be invoked as a reason for conflict but rather as a source of diversity and enhancement.

The week of February 1-7 was devoted to worldwide interfaith harmony, the promotion of harmony among all people, regardless of their faith. This event, launched in 2010 by the United Nations General Assembly and celebrated every year, is an opportunity for people from all backgrounds and faiths to meet and engage in a dialogue around their spirituality. This dialogue is the key to better mutual understanding for the establishment of lasting peace.

In Belgium, this week is also punctuated by several events including interventions, debates, film or documentary screenings and intercultural meals. It was a perfect opportunity to open the debate on issues that were rarely discussed peacefully, such as religious discrimination, food and the weight of patriarchy.

On this occasion, Fedactio supports this message. For many years now, one of our main concerns is to promote social cohesion, dialogue, mutual respect, understanding and cooperation. Our "Social Cohesion and Dialogue" platform is at the origin of many projects related to this theme.
Let us also take this opportunity to recall the urgency of fighting prejudice if we want a more peaceful tomorrow society. One of these flagship projects, called "Iftarons", brings families of different faiths together over a meal. The iftar, the meal eaten during Ramadan evenings, is the ideal time to welcome family and friends. This year again, this project will take place during the month of Ramadan (May 2019). On this occasion, our volunteers will open their homes and hearts to everyone.
