The attendees first enjoyed a nice meal with tea and pastries for dessert. Once everyone was full and satisfied, For Youth’s general coordinator, Ethem, started his presentation. The students received further information about the organization, stimulating young people to participate in social projects, which contribute to social cohesion between different communities. The new project, that matches a young person from migration background with an isolated elderly person, was presented to the enthusiastic students. For Youth’s president also joined in and gave a passionate speech about his elderly neighbor Madame Simonne, whom he sees on a regularly basis.
“Not only am I helping others but I am also working on my personal development”, said one of the students in regard to the helping-the-elderly project. “We don’t want the elderly to stop living a happy life”, said another girl. Twelve students already signed up for the project, which will soon be launched in Brussels. After the meeting, the attendees helped clean up and afterwards, a surprise birthday party was thrown, a perfect ending to this meaningful evening. That same evening, For Youth travelled to Ghent as well, to present their project to the students of that city.
