On Sunday September 30, the kids of Meridiaan went to the garden of ‘De wereld van Kina’, a museum in Ghent. This wildlife garden, one of the oldest in Flanders contains more than 1.500 different plants and herbs. The kids were divided in two groups, so one could visit the museum while the other group went outside to explore the garden.

After collecting all the pieces of the story, they read the book ‘Fox and Hare and Owl’s balloon’ by Sylvia Vanden Heede. Afterwards Jacob the Dragon accompanied the kids through the marvelous world of flora and fauna. The dragon lives in the tallest tree of the garden and is the chief-dragon of the secret Order of Dragons. The kids could join the Order after completing some hard dragon duties.

In the museum a guide showed the interested audience some tarantulas, stick insects, fungus and honeybees. What not to forget? Male tarantulas can be recognized by their special shaped stems that look like boxing gloves. The kids formed a fairy circle with Enzo the squirrel and Sjaakje the snail helped them solve some riddles.

Every kid received a well-deserved Dragon’s degree after this instructive day.
