Beltud kicks off the new year with Turkish language classes

Share it:
The Belgian-Turkish Friendship Association (Beltud) has dedicated itself to improve the relationship between the Turkish and Belgian community, for three years now. This year, Beltud is starting off with weekly culinary workshops, Turkish language and music courses and grand events like the talent show ‘Colors of Belgium', the Belgian-Turkish football competition and the cultural festival ‘Brussels' Cultural Days'.
The association kicked off with a Turkish language course for beginners. The participants gather every Monday in the classrooms of Prisma to improve their knowledge of Turkish. During the first class the participants will learn their first words and they will be able to absorb a bit of Turkish culture by a cup of Turkish tea and Turkish delight.

The activities of Beltud have a bigger importance this year, because 2014 will be the 50th anniversary of the Turkish migration to Belgium. In the context of the 50th year events Beltud is organizing the second edition of the Cartoon Contest, in partnership with Belgian Cartoon Press, European Cartoon Center and Fedactio. Using the art of the cartoon, the story of the Turkish community in Belgium, its 50 year lasting history, its children grown up with different traditions, its cultural heritage of multiple identities is presented in a humoristic way. The touring exhibitions of selected cartoons will make some key stops.

Besides its numerous activities in Belgium, Beltud also organizes trips to Turkey. The association leads his members along the banks of the  Bosphorus, over the heights of Cappadocia to the fabled East. The social perspective, drinking tea and dining at a local’s place, makes the journeys an unforgettable event.
